Our Firm

40 Years of Financial Planning

Since 1986, Wingate Wealth Advisors has helped individuals and families navigate life’s financial complexities with clarity, care, and confidence. While the financial world has changed dramatically since our founding, one thing has remained constant: our commitment to thoughtful advice, long-term relationships, and doing what’s right for our clients.

As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we are proud not only of where we’ve been, but of how intentionally we are building for the future.

Our Origins: A Foundation of Trust

Wingate Wealth Advisors was founded in 1986 by a group of entrepreneurial advisors who believed financial planning should be personal, principled, and rooted in long-term relationships. Two of those founding advisors, Jeffrey White, CFP® and Peter Frailey, CFP® remain with the firm today, continuing to serve clients and embody the values that shaped Wingate from the beginning.

As our founding advisors approached retirement, they made a deliberate choice—one that continues to define Wingate today. Rather than selling to an outside firm or consolidator, they transitioned their practices internally to ensure continuity for clients and preserve the firm’s independence.

“Since our founding in 1986, we have sought to understand our clients’ personal circumstances and financial concerns, help them manage their personal finances, and plan for their future.

As an independent firm in a world increasingly dominated by large financial corporations, whose interests may not be entirely aligned with their customers, our focus has always been on what is in the best interests of our clients.

We consider it to be a privilege for us to have a window into our clients’ lives and learn about their families and accomplishments, and to be able to help them accomplish their financial goals.”

Our work is about your best interests

Independently owned since our inception, we have no public stockholders to satisfy, and we sell no products. But our independence means even more than that. We are a fiduciary advisor, which means that unlike traditional brokers, we are legally obligated to always act in your best interests.

A Thoughtful Transition: The Second Generation of Leadership

The responsibility of carrying Wingate forward was entrusted to a new generation of partners and senior advisors:

Together, they represent Wingate’s second generation of leadership, advisors who were carefully selected, mentored, and prepared to steward client relationships and guide the firm’s long-term vision.

In 2021, Rich Byron joined Wingate as Chief Operating Officer, bringing deep operational expertise and a strategic mindset to the firm. His impact was immediate, and he subsequently became a partner, further strengthening Wingate’s leadership team and long-term succession plan.

This generation of partners has been instrumental in modernizing the firm while staying true to its core values, expanding services, investing in infrastructure, and building a firm designed to endure.

Building the Next Generation

Wingate’s commitment to continuity doesn’t stop with its partners.

In recent years, the firm has intentionally developed and elevated a group of talented advisors, our third generation, who are actively building careers, relationships, and leadership within the firm:

These advisors work closely with senior partners and clients alike, ensuring that relationships are multi-layered, collaborative, and resilient over time. This approach allows Wingate to serve clients not just for decades, but across generations.

“Financial planning isn’t just about numbers. It’s about helping people make confident decisions during the moments that matter most in their lives.”

An Ensemble Firm, Designed for Better Outcomes

“An ensemble firm allows us to bring the full strength of Wingate to every relationship. We deliver better client outcomes by working together.”

Rich Byron, Partner & Chief Operating Officer

Wingate Wealth Advisors operates as an ensemble practice, not a collection of siloed advisors. This structure allows our clients to benefit from depth, collaboration, and specialization across the firm.

We have built centralized teams dedicated to investment management, financial planning, and compliance and operations.

By sharing expertise and resources across the firm, advisors are free to focus on what matters most: understanding clients’ goals and delivering thoughtful, coordinated advice.

At the same time, Wingate encourages advisors to develop specialty planning areas based on their individual skills, interests, and passions, enhancing the firm’s collective expertise while providing clients access to deeper, more nuanced guidance.

“As our firm has grown, so has the opportunity for advisors to develop deep expertise in the areas they care most about. That benefits our clients and it keeps our advisors engaged, curious, and constantly learning.”

Gary Pomerantz, Partner & Senior Advisor

Wingate Wealth Looking into the Future

Focused on the Future

Our long-term vision is clear: developing talent from within and serving clients with the same care and integrity that has defined the firm for 40 years.

“The future of Wingate is about continuity, developing great advisors, strengthening relationships, and making sure the firm keeps evolving while staying true to what’s always mattered most.”

Matt Lasker, Partner & Senior Advisor

As we look ahead, we remain deeply grateful for the trust our clients place in us, and excited about the generations of advisors who will continue to earn that trust in the years to come.
